Local Facilities

 Freshwater Village and Yarmouth Town are the main centres for the West Wight. Yarmouth is geared more towards the holiday season and visitors, with a large percentage of second homes. As such it is the centre for restaurants, pubs and selective shopping. Freshwater Village is caters for the needs of residents and has a number of small supermarkets, general shops, cafes and take aways. Freshwater has the health centre and the sports centre.

Banks and money

Along Avenue Road, Freshwater, the following main banks can be found: Lloyds TSB, Natwest, Barclays and HSBC. The Co-Op supermarket in Afton Road has an ATM.
There are a number of Estate Agents along Avenue Road who have links to the major building societies.

Health

The Island's main NHS Hospital is St Mary's in Newport ( Tel: 01983 524081 ) however there is usually a rapid response ambulance located within the West Wight.

Indoor Sports and Fitness:

West Wight Sports Centre is a non profit making charitable company. It is located at the back of  the Moa Place Car Park off School Green Road. Facilities include: Two swimming pools, Fitness room, Sports Hall, Two meeting rooms,  Sports shop, specialising in swimwear and a licensed cafe'.

Golf

Above the Bay on Afton Down is the 18 hole Freshwater Golf Club Telephone: 01983 752955.

Arts and crafts


Seahorses offer a number of art and craft course, with or without accommodation.
Dimbola Galleries & Photographic Museum features permanent and changing exhibitions of Art and Photography, IoW Festival history, Jimi Hendrix statue, Tea Room and gift shop. Art courses are also available. Telephone: 01983 756814
Freshwater Library also holds exibitions and art events.
Freshwater Memorial Hall also hosts events, concerts and craft fairs.


Extreme Sports

Within the grounds of the Sandpipers Hotel you will find First Contact. They offer a number of extreme sports from paragliding to high speed RIB rides.

Fire and Emergency

There is a fire station in Freshwater village in Tennyson Road which runs behind the shops in Avenue Road. The nearest police station is in Yarmouth and there is Coastguard centre at the Needles.
Freshwater Bay Lifeboat is an independent station reliant on local fundraising, but covering much of the coastal waters south of the Island. An R.N.L.I.lifeboat is stationed at Yarmouth.
