Local shopping around Freshwater Bay
It has to be said that people come to Freshwater Bay for many things, but shopping is not one of them! However, that is to do a disservice to a few fine establishments.
Food Orchards at the "V" fork in the road between Gate Lane/Bedbury Lane and Victoria Road. A classic English corner shop. In the past this establishment included a bank and a coal merchants. Now it sells fine foods and allows you to shop for everyday items as well as quality.
Afton Apple Orchards Farm Shop. Just inside the Newport Road, on the right. This shop offers a collection of items from mainly Island suppliers. There is meat from the Chinashop rare breeds, organic vegetables and fruits from Godshill Organics, cakes and ice cream from Calbourne Classics and of course apple juice from the apple orchards. They are also offering a range of take away and heat up meals for those that want good ingredients but without the fuss of preperation.
Freshwater village also has a butcher, fishmonger, green grocer and baker. At the end of Afton Road there is the Co-Op and in Freshwater, Somefields.
Post Office Between the church of St Agnes' and Orchards you will find the Freshwater Bay Post Office. Again, a great place to visit as it is truly English shop, selling not only post office supplies but also newspapers, stationary, local books, toys, ice creams and wonderful oddments, such as needles and thread.
Lifeboat shop One of the most popular little shops in the summer is the Lifeboat shop on the western side of the Freshwater Bay Lifeboat station. This sells many holiday items such as beach toys, postcards, ice creams, tea and coffee, local mementoes and maps. The profits go to support the lifeboat, so a good place to shop for these items.
